The Malibu Mall Plus More New Stuff

I’ve been in and out of Walmart and Target quite a bit in the past couple of weeks. So, I thought I’d share the new products that caught my eye.

Target
I got to see the new Day to Night Trichelle and Grace dolls in person. This new version of Grace has a really young face. She could probably be the younger sister of some of the earlier Grace dolls. I like her extra fashion, but I cannot get over those teeth. Check out the close ups. WTH?! The teeth were like that on every single doll.

They also had two Barbie Style dolls I hadn’t seen previously. I want those printed pants and that floral jacket.

Toys ‘R Us
I first saw the new Malibu Mall online two days ago. It was $89.99 with free in-store pickup. I went to the store to see it in person. The mall has an ATM, a food court, a fashion boutique, a working escalator, and a movie theater that plays movies from your smart phone. I really like the idea of this, but I’m not sure if we need it or not. And I just noticed that they’ve raised the price ten dollars online…smh.

I also wanted to see if my local store had the new Kenya dolls I read about here. I didn’t see any boxes marked 2014, but there were several dated 2013 that I hadn’t seen before. Here are the more recent versions alongside the 2012 versions. All of the newer girls have articulated knees, but not wrists or elbows.

Walmart
These Sparkle Girlz fashion dolls are priced at $8.97 and have some cute themed accessories. Muff posted about these as well, and she had different dolls available in her store.

Notice anything strange about this one?

Yep, that’s Fashionistas Ryan in a Monster High box. Some joker apparently bought the MH doll, swapped it for Ryan, and then returned it to the store for a refund...smh again. Funny thing is, I considered bringing him home. He was in mint condition. Ryan is on Mara’s wish list, and this would have allowed me to get him for cheaper than what I’ve been seeing online ; )

Yes, I did buy some things. But that will have to wait for another post...I'm beat.

  1. Hi Jewell, LOL for those teeth! The Mall looks great, with the rolling stairs and everything. The swapped doll is amazing, you would think somebody from the store would have noticed it :-). I'm curious what you bought.

    1. Hi Night Owl. I guess the folks at this Walmart aren't the most observant bunch :) I'm anxious to open and photograph my new stuff. Unfortunately real life beckons with laundry to do, papers to grade, and so much more. Stay tuned, because I'll probably sneak in a short post of some of my purchases.

  2. LOL, I must have a dirty mind because at the Ryan photo all I could think of was, "Something strange? What, that he's cupping his junk?" I didn't even notice the box, lol!

That mall is amazing and it doesn't include the separate Malibu stalls that they released earlier so you could have a humungous shopping center if you put all those together.

That Grace doll looks like a teenager! I guess it's the bigger eyes that does it... and her overbite, lol.

    1. He does look like he's cupping his junk! LOL Love the shopping center idea, and I already have one of the other sets. Now, you've got me thinking about where I could fit it all.

  3. Every time I look at your photos, I keep thinking poor Grace is trying to emulate Clawdeen of Monster High.

I wish my local stores acknowledged the existence of S.I.S. and Kenya. It's challenging to find one that does (and I live in the central city, not the 'burbs! eesh!).

    1. LOL at Grace trying to join the wolf pack! I was beginning to think that Atlanta-area Family Dollar stores had some kind of monopoly on Kenya dolls. And I have one TRU that I no longer patronize because they refuse to acknowledge the diversity around them.

  4. I've seen the new Grace and Trichelle with teeth dolls. I would just paint out that "teeth" space with another lip color. Shudder. It doesn't work for me either.

There's something about Walmart: I've seen more unoffficial doll substitutions there than I have anywhere else. Makes you wonder if they do not check the stock they receive back.

    1. Just read your blog post on switcheroos. The part that burns me up the most is that I'm 98% positive that the culprits are collectors, which is just low. This was my first time spotting a substitution, but I've seen plenty of play sets with missing pieces (usually infants or other accessories).

  5. Those teeth are hideous. I don't understand that at all. On the Monster High photo, I didn't recognize the doll in the box, so I was looking at the photo trying to figure out wht kind of monstrous quality he possessed. :)

    1. Roxanne, I swear I was doing the exact same thing in the store aisle! I must have studied him a good two minutes before realizing what I was seeing. There weren't any more of the doll he was swapped for to compare. When my inspection turned up not a single monstrous quality, it finally dawned on me who he was.
