New Fashionistas

I realized yesterday that I hadn't photographed any of the nearly two dozen dolls I've purchased this year. Shame on me! Notice I said nearly two dozen. So before you ask, No, I haven't gone over my 24 doll limit for the year...but I'll admit I'm getting close. I'm going to introduce my new Barbie Fashionistas in this post. I'll save the other introductions for another post.

I wanted to do my part to support the diverse body types now being offered, so I made up my mind to purchase at least one each of the petite, tall, and curvy dolls. My dolls were all purchased online at either Target.com or Amazon.com. I have a Target debit card, so shipping is free. And I finally bit the bullet and signed up for Prime again, so two-day shipping was free from Amazon, too.

Petitle, Curvy, Regular, & Tall for height comparison

First up is the Emoji Fun curvy doll. $19.99 from Amazon
Her name is  Elon. I don't have a job or back story for her yet, but I expect I'll have something soon.
I am very happy with her complexion and face up. As others have noted, she can share some clothes with the other dolls. Loose or stretchy pieces and A-line dresses are no problem at all.

Eboni (on a Baby Phat Chandra body) next to Elon for complexion comparison

I was worried she wouldn't be able to share shoes with the other dolls when I saw the size of the pink heels she was wearing, but I was able to get the open-toe heels that came with the blue floral dress pictured below on her just fine.

The pink shoes Elon was wearing on an average Barbie foot

Elon might be stiff, but at least she can sit with her legs closed. I'm looking at you, Lammily!

Next up is the Fab Fringe tall doll. $7.99 from Target
Fab Fringe is now Freda Anthony, Robyn's cousin. I tried to get past Kanika's (blonde in first photo) huge head, but in the end I just couldn't. Kanika has been replaced as Robyn's cousin in my stories. But I won't be tossing her in the donation bin just yet. I intend to use her to practice repainting. Speaking of painting...as soon as the mood strikes me, I will give Freda a lip color that doesn't clash with her fabulous red hair. And I'm seriously debating putting her on an AA Made to Move body. It's a perfect match, but she will lose her lovely height.

Next is the Ruby Red petite doll. $7.94 from Amazon
She is Ruby Li, Meiling's younger sister. Meiling is the Made to Move doll I introduced a while back. Inspired by Shasha, I cut her long hair into an inverted bob. Ruby will get a Made to Move body, too on my next trip to TRU.

The Li sisters have a cousin on their father's side. Her name is Taleah Li. Her name is a combination of tall and Lea for her facial sculpt, but I actually had a Taleah in my class several years ago. I haven't deboxed her yet, but I will soon. $19.99 from Amazon

I also ordered this cutie. ($14.99 from Amazon) She's not a Fashionista, but I'm showing her here because she was purchased as a body donor for Taleah. She's a perfect match, and in this case I don't care at all about the loss of height. I will be buying a few more of these as she is also a good match for the doll with the romper and a few others  with a light AA tone.

What a gorgeous face!

I'm updating this post to include two ladies who were inadvertently left out. I'd forgotten that they were never introduced, because both were purchased last year. Allow me to introduce Cheyanne and Avery. These gals are salon assistants. Avery is without a body at the moment, because I sent her off to Cyano Reroots to have her pink hair replaced with black. At our last doll club meeting, Georgia Girl did a workshop on rooting eyelashes. I finished one eye under the supervision of my awesome instructor (Thanks, Georgia Girl!!) and I did the other eye at home. I need to trim her lashes a bit, but my sharpest scissors are at work. In August, GG is doing a flocking workshop. I'm contemplating removing her blonde flocking and replacing it with black. What say you?

I also have plans to give Avery some tattoos and piercings. Has anyone re-bodied this doll? If so, which body did you use?

That's all for now. The next photo story will be posted in a few days.

  1. Wow, Jewell! So many dolls. You are tempting me. I like them all. Maybe after you repaint the blonde with the big head, you'll like her more and give her another life.

    1. We'll see, Janainah. To be honest, I'm not a huge fan of that face sculpt. If I never warm to her, then I'll probably gift her to one of my girls.

  2. That is an impressive haircut you gave Meiling. Gives her a totally different edge.

    1. Thanks! It's funny that you mention the edge it gave her. I realized when I was prepping her for the pictures that I don't have the right clothes for her new look. I tend to dress my dolls like me, so there's a lot of modern-classic princess-y type stuff around here. Androgynous is NOT a word that would be used to describe my typical look. I wear Converse sneakers with pearl necklaces and boyfriend jeans with high heels. I guess I'm gonna have to get my girl some clothes.

  3. Jewell, you are like me with getting these new dolls. I got most of mine from either Amazon or Target.com because I get free shipping from both. I also have an Amazon credit card and I use it for a lot of purchases like groceries and gas to get the bonus bucks to use for dolly purchases. I then just pay it off right away, so I am not building a lot of debt. I also love the haircut you gave Meiling. Very edgy!

    1. Thanks! I do the same thing that you do, except I have a Visa rewards card with my bank. I put everything on that card and then redeem the points for Amazon and TRU gift cards. Bonus bucks for dolly purchases :)

  4. BTW, I forgot to mention that I noticed that your Emoji Fun's hair is much more like the prototype's hair. Mine is very straight, with only a hint of wave. Also, tall and curvy can share shoes!

    1. Yes, my doll's hair came exactly like the promo images. I actually loosened her curls by dipping them in boiling water.

  5. WOW! Great dolls! I am hoping to get my Emoji Fun curvy doll in the mail today! I thought her shoes looked big. So her feet are large? So tell me does she have the Fancy in Flowers face or the Pants So Pink?

    1. Her feet are a little longer, but not so much that she can't still wear regular Barbie shoes. Yes, it looks to me like she has the Fancy in Flowers face...very pretty.

  6. Beautiful dolls! I recently purchased most of the same dolls. I love love the red hair doll! I have rebodied mine. I couldn't get just one, so twins again! Lol! Mattel did really well with the Fashionistas line. If they made them articulated they would be real jackpot. Looking forward to your other goodies!!

    1. LOL at you and your doublemint twins! I agree that Mattel has done well with the Fashionistas line. It's too bad they didn't go the extra mile with the articulation.

  7. It was great seeing your comparisons of all of these dolls. I still have a few dolls in their packages that need to be released and photographed. Mattel keeps thinking of new ways to separate me from my money. :)

    1. LOL at that last line...so true! Mattel has been quite successful at separating me from my money too this year.

  8. I only made it to the second paragraph before hopping over to target.com. I've been wanting the red tall fashionista and I'm tired of looking for her in the store. Amazon is killing me with their $49 free shipping now. They are really pushing people to get Prime and I'm not budging. Not to mention Target's prices are better at the moment. Love your ladies. I, too, will be putting the red head on a MTM body. If you really want the height, you could consider an Integrity body donor.

    1. Thanks for the suggestion of using an Integrity donor. I hadn't considered that. Yep, Amazon is making it harder and harder to avoid a Prime membership. They're even offering month to month for folks who don't want to commit to the whole year. I ordered a 30-day subscription so I could continue checking out the benefits besides free 2-day shipping. I'm enjoying the music and video access so far.

  9. I love the new beauties you have over there. I'm still on the fence about Emoji Fun, I have been waiting on her to come out too. Like you I don't want to loose the height on Tall Barbie and I have been looking at IT doll bodies but I just don't want to part with the money just yet.

    1. Brini, I don't have enough knowledge of IT skin tones to get a good match without a lot of (costly) guessing and checking, so I went ahead and gave her a MTM body. Emoji Fun is my favorite of the AA curvy gals so far. Her complexion totally won me over. I need more dolls with that dark chocolate complexion.

  10. Thanks for sharing the photos of these dolls. I, too, have some deboxing to do ;-)

I LOVE the comparison photos and the new curly blonde, tan MTM Barbie.
